A conference that behaves like a community, because that is all it is.

BSides began in 2009 as a room for the talks that did not fit the big conference. It grew into a worldwide framework of independent, locally-run events. Dehradun runs one of them.

02 Why here

640 metres up, and a long way from the conference circuit.

Dehradun sits in a valley between the Shivalik hills and the greater Himalaya. It is a university city whose security community has spent years travelling to Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune for other people's conferences.

03 Past editions

Two editions in, and the room keeps getting bigger.

Each edition has been sized to what the volunteer crew could run well. The third is the first with four hundred seats.

04 Programme

Day one is the CTF and the workshops. Day two is the conference and the villages.

The shape of both days is settled. The timetable is not. It is built from the accepted talks, so it lands after speakers have heard back, 10 to 14 February 2027.

3–4 Apr 2027

  1. Before The CTF's online qualifying round, free and open to anyone, on . Runs 36 hours. Played wherever you are.
  2. Day one Workshops, and the CTF final for the top 100 to 120 who qualified online. Times to be confirmed. The villages floor is not open on this day.
  3. Day two The main conference. Talks on the main track, and the villages floor open alongside them. Village lineup is provisional, see the villages page.

You have something to say. We have a room and a projector.

First-time speakers are actively wanted. Roughly a third of every lineup we have run was someone's first conference talk. Reviews are blind. Send the idea, not a CV.

The conference is the volunteers. There is no other staff.

None of it needs prior conference experience. Volunteers get a ticket, a shirt and food. Write with what you would like to do and roughly how much time you have.

10 FAQ

Questions we get asked, answered honestly.

Do I need to be a security professional to attend?

No. A large share of every BSides Dehradun audience has been students and people early in their career, and the programme is built with that in mind. If you are curious and willing to read a slide, you will get something out of it.

What happens on which day?

Day one, Saturday 3 April, is the workshops and the on-site CTF final. Day two, Sunday 4 April, is the main conference and the villages floor. A ticket covers both days, so the split is about what is on when, not about what you have paid for.

Is the whole event in English?

Talks are in English. Conversation in the hallways and the villages happens in whatever mix of English and Hindi the people involved prefer, which is most of the point of a local conference.

What should I bring?

A laptop if you want to take part in a workshop, the villages or the CTF, a charger, and a layer for the evening, early April in the valley is warm in the day and cool after dark. Everything else is optional.

Will talks be recorded?

Our intention is to record the main track and publish it, with each speaker's consent. We will confirm this before the event rather than promise it now, recording depends on the room and the kit we can get.

Can my company sponsor a talk slot?

No. Speaking slots come out of the CFP and nothing else. Your team is very welcome to submit a talk like everyone else, and it will be read on the same terms as every other submission, with the sponsorship left out of it.

Is there a code of conduct?

Yes, and it is enforced. It applies to attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers and organisers equally, in the venue and in our online spaces.

What is a "village"?

A dedicated area for one subject, run by people who work in it, where you do things with your hands instead of watching slides. Turn up, sit down, ask the person next to you what they are doing. The floor is open on day two, alongside the talks.

It is three, in hexadecimal. This is the third edition, and we are a security conference, the joke writes itself and we are not going to stop now.
