Longer, smaller, and you bring the laptop.

A workshop is the session you leave able to do something you could not do at breakfast. The workshops at Security BSides Dehradun 0x03 are chosen through the same call for papers as the talks, which means the list is decided at the same time. Nothing is announced before 14 February 2027, and nothing on this page is a placeholder for a session we already have.

01 What to expect

A talk you have to keep up with.

The difference is not the subject, it is what you are doing while it happens. Five things are true of a workshop here regardless of which ones get accepted.

You are working, not watching

Expect to type. A session that could have been a talk is a talk, and the review board reads a workshop proposal against exactly that question.
Your own laptop, your own charger

Assume that is the baseline and assume the wifi is busy. If a session needs anything installed beforehand, that goes out with the programme so you are not downloading a virtual machine in the corridor.
Smaller than a talk, because the room is

Seat allocation to be confirmed
A workshop is capped by the room rather than the hall. Whether that means a sign-up sheet, a queue at the door, or nothing at all is not decided, when it is, it is published with the programme rather than announced on the morning.
Taught by whoever does it, not whoever sells it

Workshops go through the same review as talks, by the same five people, on the same terms. A sponsorship does not buy a session at any tier, the sponsor page says so in those words.
Nothing extra to pay

There is no training ticket, no add-on and no second checkout. A workshop is part of the programme any of the three ticket types buys. The only other pass sold is the ₹699 competitor pass for CTF finalists, and it buys the final rather than the workshops.

The call for papers opens 1 October 2026 and closes 25 December 2026; workshops are read in the same queue as talks and everyone hears back by 14 February 2027. The sessions appear here after that, each with what to install before you arrive.

The villages floor is open for all of day two and needs no sign-up at all: a table, a subject and somebody who will explain it forty times. Several of them are more approachable than a workshop for a first conference, and they do not clash with anything here.

Tuned by our own team, with entry-level challenges specifically so a first-timer solves something. It runs in two rounds: a free online qualifier on 5–6 March 2027, open to anyone, then the final on day one for the top 100 to 120. That final shares the day with the workshops, so if you qualify you will have to choose.

Will I have to choose between a workshop and the CTF final?

If you qualify, yes. The final is played on day one, which is the day the workshops run. The online qualifier is on 5–6 March 2027 and the top 100 to 120 come to the final, so you will know which way you are spending the Saturday well before it.

Submit through the same call for papers as a talk and mark it clearly as hands-on so it is reviewed as one. Run one

Have you taught this to anyone before?

Internally, at a college, in a Discord call, that counts as experience, and the review board would like to hear about it. A workshop is harder to run than a talk and worth more to the people who sit through it.

Submit it through the same call for papers as a talk and mark it clearly as hands-on, so it is reviewed as one. Tell us what the session genuinely needs, time, seats, anything beyond a laptop, and we will tell you honestly whether we can provide it rather than promise a room we have not seen.
